What Constitues a Revolution?

The word revolution is widely used out of context, and its meaning has been expanded to include an assortment of ideas, emotions and desires. According to Jean-Francois Revel, "When people rise up to fight for their independence against oppression this is not a revolution, in the proper sense of the word, but an insurrection. A man is not necessarily a revolutionary when he fights to defend his life, or escapes from prison. I might even say that external danger has the effect of retarding or hindering the authenticity of revolutionary evolution; for that evolution must have, as its principal motive, the intention of recasting totally the organization of society and the system of human relations."

An insurrectional revolution has no place in our modern world. War has become an obsolete expression of implementing human progression. It must be eliminated as one of the main objectives of the revolution, and as a true test of its authenticity. Science and technology have exploited nature's darkest secrets and harnessed her powers to such a level of dynamism that any major deployment of nuclear weaponry would spell planetary suicide for all inhabitants. We are as much at risk of experiencing a nuclear accident, as we are acts of nuclear intentions or terrorism. The nations' massive stockpiles of annihilating arsenals reflect the out dated mindsets of governments and their "shoot first, ask questions later" leaders.

I think that it is a tremendous human tragedy that the economy and its condition dictates our cultural way of life, and that war is its chief consumer. Economics, therefore, declares war a necessity and our government is forced to oblige. Aggression has mutated into a very distinct form of violence that employs a source of destructive energy far more powerful than the atom. The human mind is producing thoughts that are triple digit exponents more destructive than nuclear energy. Although governments will not admit it, terrorism is a much more advanced tactic of warfare than nuclear warhead missiles. When the will to live is replaced by the will and desire to die for a divine cause that is supported by the incentive of entering paradise as a martyr, with promising rewards beyond imaginary fantasy, then for one to sacrifice his or her life for the destruction of many other lives is not only a conviction of religious duty but an act of dignity, pride, and heroic honor.

"There is no greater enemy than an opponent who embraces death and only fears disappointing his or her God, and who will regret never experiencing paradise. Threats, bombs and capital punishment are not successful mechanisms of deterring the mind of today's terrorist."

Psychologists, psychiatrists and behavioral scientists all know that the mindset of today's terrorist has to be addressed with a psychology that deprograms the terrorist's process of thinking and his or her habitual behavior patterns. Such a program would be in direct competition with the terrorist's perception of paradise. The overwhelming advantage that a successful program would have over paradise would be its ability to deliver pleasurable rewards in the here and now. Realistically speaking, there isn't but one force on Earth that is capable of addressing the mindset of a terrorist. That force is definitely love!

Our distorted definition of terrorism leaves an unaccountable statistic of the present and increasing number of terrorists arising throughout the world. When an individual decides to only destroy him or herself terror has no witness and fear is unlikely to erupt into a contagious plague. Therefore suicide silently becomes acceptable terrorism through a "turn your head" policy of ignorance. Suicide has surpassed homicide! More people are killing themselves than they are killing each other. Suicide has become the third leading cause of death in our society, the second leading cause in the military and the second leading cause of death in the lives of college students.

"Death is losing its reign as the major human fear."

The alarming message is that death by will is an epidemic; therefore, terrorism is an epidemic! This fact makes the necessity of "The New Revolution" more imperative than any other reason in the world, which brings us to the question of my topic and the consciousness of its answer. What constitutes a revolution? The intrinsic nature of a revolution is change.

Q. What level of the human spectrum is change needed the most?

A. The human mind!

A revolution must change the way humans think and behave. It must create a new reality that raises the individual's sense of reality and livelihood far above his or her present condition and circumstances. In order to properly address the human mind there must be consciousness of the human nature – the soul or spirit. Such a human endeavor demands a spiritual revolution of consciousness. A revolution is a system of processes that evolve according to cooperative and coordinative conditions. A spiritual revolution would necessitate ideal spiritual conditions of coordination and cooperation.

"Where else in the world could the human spirit have the liberty to make its presence known through consciousness, expression and collaboration but in the United States? America is definitely the birthplace of " The New Revolution."
Thus Spake The 21st Century Philosopher and New Revolutionist

Religion has served its mission of cultivating human faith. Its promised rewards in the hereafter are meaningless to the needs of the human spirit in the here and now. Religion is a victim of separatism and a product of the analytical mind. It has divided humanity into multiple realities with different interpretations of the divine. A revolution calls for human unity, harmony and collaboration of the human spirit – a task religion has failed to accomplish. Spirituality is a product of the synthesized mind and is developed through integration. Love is the natural force that operates the law of integration. To sum up the teachings of Jesus Christ, "Only through love can humanity achieve salvation."

In summary – The constitution of a true revolution is the cultivation of love, spirituality and consciousness to levels of existence and expressions that elevate humanity to a stage of reality never ever witnessed in human history.

As a New Revolutionist my heart, mind and soul yearns with passionate desire to not only witness such a mighty revolution but also to engineer it.
