The philosophy of Nungkyyii teaches that as human beings we share the same universal spirit of life. This infinite energy of supreme intelligence permeates all existence. We humans are fractions of this omnipotent whole. We each possess a soul that is distinct by its individual characteristic, physical form of residence and destined expression. The soul is the essence of human life as a permeating energy that penetrates the different grades of the body's matter. This soul penetration creates several different planes of human existence. The two planes that are of greatest concern are the ego and the personality. The ego represents the initial stage of human consciousness. It is the reality that we call me or I. The ego develops greater levels of consciousness as we distinguish the self from its surroundings. Greater levels of self-consciousness add greater levels of empowerment to the ego. The personality is the vehicle of expression of the ego. The ego develops a bonding relationship with the nervous system through the physical senses and takes control of the behavior of the human being. As the ego gains greater consciousness it gains awareness of the forces of will and desire, then learns to manipulate these human forces toward the accomplishment of its pleasure and satisfaction. The ego is conditioned by the cycles of pain and pleasure. In manipulating the will, desire and personality toward the achievements of pleasure and satisfaction, pain becomes an undesirable part of reality and the ego goes out of its way to avoid its presence at any expense. The ego's repulsive reaction toward pain eventually distorts reality and offsets equilibrium between the brain's receptive and repulsive regions. This results in mental disorder and the internal system of the human being begins to break down and self-destruct. The unconscious neglect of the obedience of spiritual laws and lack of direction of spiritual order by human beings results in spiritual illness. Spiritual illness takes atrophy upon the brain causing mental illness. And mental illness proceeds to physical illness in a form most often diagnosed as cancer. At this stage in life the human being is in serious trouble. His or her situation and the condition of health are beyond the physician's knowledge and incurable by the magic of medicine. The ego now has become incompetent in directing the personality and serving the body positively and constructively. Now the individual is in desperate need of a spiritual transformation. Balance must be restored in the brain's cycles of pain and pleasure; behavior must be modified; thought must be reconstructed and the spirit must be renewed. In a more layman or biblical language, "The human being must be spiritually reborn." Rebirth is a conscious and spiritual transformation of the human being in which the ego must make way for the conscious presence and expression of the soul. The soul must take the steering wheel of the human vehicle and the ego must now take the passenger seat. This spiritual process of rebirth is not an overnight experience. And it surely isn't an instant ritual of religious baptism. Instead, it is a long journey of trials and tribulations, a very painful experience of suffering and sacrifices, and an extreme lonely life of solitude. Without disciplining the ego to submit to the soul, conflict between the ego and the soul will eventually force the soul to exit the human form in search of a more ideal and willing vehicle for its destined expression.
Discipline is the most necessary condition in the spiritual transformation of the human being and the development of consciousness of the existence of the soul. Nungkyyii is a philosophical art and practice of the development and expression of self-discipline. And Exceptional Education is a fruit of its disciplinary philosophy.
Spiritual transformation initiates a journey within the human being, forcing detachment from material possessions, emotional relationships and worldly events. This experience of detachment is excruciatingly painful, but of the utmost necessity in restoring the brain's state of equilibrium. This extreme experience of pain is symbolized and given the phrase "Treading the Sacred Fire." This very significant experience is a process of purification of the individual's patterns of thought and behavior. The "Sacred Fire" is made up of three flames of suffering, sacrifice and service. The flame of suffering purifies our emotions by shifting our feelings from physical values and preparing those feelings to register spiritual values. The flame of sacrifice purifies our desire by separating us from our material possessions and emotional attachments of the physical world. And the flame of service purifies our spirit, heart and intentions through selflessly serving the needs of others. The "Sacred Fire" carries a double duty. It purifies the sincere, dedicated and honest seeker of spiritual transformation. And it destroys the false, selfish and dishonest seeker of emotional security and satisfaction. The "Sacred Fire" is the guardian of the gates of the kingdom of the spirit; therefore, pain, suffering and sacrifices are unavoidable in acquiring the treasures of the spiritual kingdom.
In order to properly prepare an individual for spiritual transformation, the philosophy of Nungkyyii has established an Exceptional Education system that specifically concentrates on educating the spirit. The spiritual instructions of Exceptional Education guide the individual through three developmental stages of selfhood Selfishness, Selflessness and Selfness. In the Selfishness stage of development the individual is taught to concentrate on the image in the mirror, and focus on learning to love, respect and accept the self in its natural state and condition. Narcissism becomes a positive and constructive concept. The individual is enrolled into a special program of self-development called The Omega Program. This dynamic program is specifically designed to develop the individual's physique, intellect, self-consciousness, self-confidence, self-discipline, self-respect, self-worth and self-esteem.
Materialism is a very dynamic instrument in the successful development of Selfishness. It is used to symbolize the progressive development of the self through recognition and rewards. Fashionable attire of a conservative mode and comfortable accommodations of living are very significant materials in promoting a positive self-image and positive personal attitude.
When self-love has definitely been achieved the individual must sacrifice the worldly tools, materials and emotional support used to complete the Selfishness stage. The self that has become loved emotionally must now be cultivated consciously beyond the life of the physical senses. The self must now venture into the abstract realm of the spirit world. The second stage of Selflessness is intended to reach a state or Samadhi (enlightenment), which is achieved through a spiritual lifestyle of self-discipline, living in the truth and a commitment to human service. This stage of sacrifice, suffering and service purifies the individual of selfish desires, motives and intentions, and expands his or her consciousness toward the concerns of other human beings. Since Selflessness opposes the ego and suppresses the individuality, self-love must be cultivated to an even greater level of progression in order to properly support the self through this painful and challenging stage of self-development. Selflessness requires extreme discipline of the ego and the emotions. It also requires a greater development of the intellect. "For without a greater intelligent understanding of the circumstances and conditions of spiritual transformation the individual will find the brain at the edge of insanity."
When the self has forfeited its material possessions, sacrificed its emotional attachments and elevated above its physical reality and identity, it is now properly prepared to accept its true identity of the self and its spiritual reality, and receive the emotional rewards of the possession of spiritual values. Selfness is achieved when the soul becomes a conscious entity of the human being and its destined expression takes control of the human body. Selfness is a spiritual way of life. The nervous system has been conditioned through suffering and sacrifices to register the new spiritual experiences and values as satisfactions of pleasure. According to the teachings of the philosophy of Nungkyyii the experience of such pleasurable satisfaction is the reality of Divine happiness, or what the ancient mystics were truly referring to when they wrote descriptions of entering the "kingdom of Heaven."
In the state of Selfness the soul's consciousness reveals it constitution as a hologram of the Infinite Mind of Intelligence (God). Therefore full conscious knowledge of the soul reveals the true knowledge of God. The daily execution of the soul's law of being is a method of gaining greater consciousness, knowledge and understanding of the soul, which eventually reaches God consciousness. God consciousness is the epitome of Spiritual Education. When a human being achieves God consciousness, this superior state of energy overwhelms the individual's being by producing patterns of thought and behavior of Godliness. In the philosophy of Nungkyyii when a human being has been spiritually transformed into a Godlike character he or she is considered to be spiritually educated.
