Change has never been a totally welcomed condition of any social structure. It blatantly ignores the old and rolls out the carpet for the new. Although sacrifice is the nature of progress, man has been trying to get around having to give up his hard earned rewards of materialism for ages. Everything that brings him pleasure, comfort, security and satisfaction, he hopes for permanency.
After reading the works of Jack Welch, then, CEO of General Electric, I have passionately embraced two of his principles of success. The first principle is never compete without the edge of advantage. And the second principle is always change before you have to. It is the second principle that really got my attention and has had the greatest impact in my life. This principle seems to be loaded with insight, vision, intelligence and common sense. When things remain the same they enter into a dogfight with the second law of thermodynamics. Nature joins the fight with abrasive friction of time, and then atrophy takes rise as a process. If you parked a Rolls Royce and never moved it eventually the tires would rot, the medal would erode and decay and the machine would no longer operate as it had been created to function.
Ancient man had to change in order to survive. He was forced to comply with the changes in nature or else face the consequence of death. Ancient man had no values that he could amass, store, secure and sit back and drool over. Most all of his valuables that didn't fit on his back were experienced within each day, and had to be retrieved the next day, therefore, the cycles of old and new were second nature to his being.
Intellect has since empowered ancient man and rocketed him forward into modernity. Now modern man and his technological genius has somewhat subdued Mother Nature and suppressed the effects of her natural rhythms of change. Modern man is no longer petrified of the night. Thanks to electricity he has access to light 24 hours, seven days a week. Discomfort due to nature's seasonal changes is no longer tolerated. The heater and the air conditioner allow modern man to stay put and disregard the temperature changes of nature. Conquering nature for the sake of avoiding change, and for acquiring self-gratification seems to be an obsession of modern man. Preserving the status quo and protecting it from change is monopolizing his greatest efforts, energy and mental activity. In our abuse of nature we have ignored her mighty force and her infallibility of change. In doing so we have disturbed her balance, diluted her chemistry and endangered all forms of life. Is there a consequence for such human behavior? Indeed there is! Such consequences could be described as the wrath of nature. There will definitely be a major reaction to all of the abuse inflicted upon nature's habitat of life. To think that we can continue to function the way we are presently living without major changes toward our environment and lifestyle speaks for the level of intelligence in conscious activity in humanity. It is somewhat disturbing to know and understand the actual conditions of humanity and its civilization, and then realize that its leadership is both impotent and incompetent in employing any intelligent means of rescuing the human race from the destruction of its own creator the process of evolution. Is it cruel to say that evolution cares naught for a defective humanity, and will start the process of human evolution all over again if need be, all for the sake of perfection? If this is true humanity as it stands is at the mercy of its own conscious, intelligent and disciplinary expression of change. This urgent human condition calls for immediate measures of intelligent activity. A revolution in human existence is not only necessary but also imperative to human survival.
We have a history of revolutions recorded in our history books. They have all demanded change by the use of violent force at the expense of human lives, property and social institutions. Revolutions of the past have been initiated by disagreement and dissent between men. Therefore a group of men conquering its adversary group meant that they had the right to make changes and impose their beliefs and principles upon the new structure of the social system. Such revolutions are inspired by ideas of freedom, wealth and power. Therefore they thrive off of suppression, poverty and ignorance, which eventually breed the need for another revolution. These vicious cycles of social revolutions only produce changes that satisfy the will and desire of its revolutionists. Humanity, its progressive development and its journey toward human destiny are never conspired within such revolutions.
Change is now demanding a response from humanity as a whole. Strategic war plans and massive weapons of destruction are totally insufficient as instruments in bringing about the changes of our human condition. We are in need of a revolution in the way we as humans think and behave. We must think in accord to the nature of our being the spirit. Therefore we must behave spiritually. Since the spirit is within and beyond the realm of our senses, we must learn to extend our awareness in the direction of the spirit. This human endeavor calls for a revolution in consciousness.
The New Revolution is a change of mind, of thought and behavior. It has no use for weapons or need for bloodshed. The New Revolution will initiate within the human being and extend its expression toward the external. It will be a revelation manifesting from the process of human evolution, designed to direct humanity on to the divine path of its destiny.
As a revolutionist of the 21st century, I say we are all faced with the responsibility of the answer to a dynamic question, "Should we change before we have to?" I didn't wait around for the answer to that question to take action by others. When I became conscious of my spirit and its destined purpose I consecrated my being as an agent of the process of human evolution, and committed myself as an instrument of change. Wisdom became my companion through meditation and I began to obey my intuitive impressions of truth. Blueprints of intelligent actions and social order began to emerge in my conscious mind, and I took on the courage to implement change for the betterment of my human race. I had no idea of my circumstances and consequences. I just knew that I had discovered my soul and that I now had something worthwhile to live for. And since I had something to live for I certainly had something to die for. I go through an emotional rush knowing that I can contribute to my human race on a level that will make a significant difference in the condition of humanity.
